Considering hiring a marketing agency for your company? Learn the pros and cons of outsourcing your marketing to boost efficiency and expertise.

Most companies understand that they need marketing. If you own a business, then your marketing can help consumers learn about it. You want them to become your customers, so you need to get information about your company out there.

Should you hire a marketing agency in Houston if you base your company there, though? Some companies get along without marketing agencies and seem to do okay.

It is a topic worth discussing in detail, so we will do so right now.

Do You Have the Budget for a Fulltime Marketing Staff Member?

When you’re thinking about whether or not to hire a marketing agency for your company, you will probably want to sit down with any decisionmakers who you respect to discuss it. As the company’s owner or CEO, you may have the final say, but you should loop anyone in who you think can provide valuable feedback on this kind of topic.

You can talk about the money that you want to put toward advertising and marketing. If you’re running a startup, then you probably don’t have unlimited funds. Maybe you’re in a position where you feel that you need to make every dollar count.

You can talk about whether it’s more cost-effective at that moment to hire an agency who can run your marketing or whether you want to have a fulltime staff member or department within your company to do it. Both methods can work, and each one has both benefits and potential drawbacks.

If you have a staff member or team within your company who does all of your marketing, then you must pay them a base salary. That might equal what you’ll pay an agency.

However, you might also have to give your staff member or team additional benefits that you won’t need to give to the marketing agency you’ve hired. For instance, the individual or team who works exclusively for your company might want a 401K with matching funds, paid vacation days, stock options if you take the company public, etc.

A marketing agency won’t need any of that. That’s why you might find it more cost-effective to just hire an agency, at least at this particular moment when you’re trying to get the company off the ground.

Do You Have the Expertise to Do Your Marketing on Your Own?

You should also think about everything that goes into marketing for a company. Marketing requires a complex, in-depth, multifaceted approach.

If you don’t have anyone on staff who you think can handle it, then hiring an agency instead makes sense. An agency of this sort should know all the niche in which you operate, assuming you pick the right one.

If you reach out to them, they might come up with a marketing strategy that sounds good to you. They may know how to implement it. They can probably point to previous marketing campaigns that they ran for other companies that yielded positive results.

You want all of those things. If you don’t have anyone on staff yet who can handle these tasks, then hiring an agency probably represents the best path forward, at least at this moment.

Can You Handle Your Social Media Accounts?

You likely know as a company owner or CEO that you must use social media to attract potential clients or customers. You may understand that means doing research to figure out what platforms to use and which ones you should avoid.

You also need someone who can run your social media accounts after you set them up. They can automate your posts so that they come out at the same time every day. Your customers will come to expect them, and hopefully, they will engage with them as well.

If you don’t feel like you have anyone on staff at the moment who can handle your social media, then hiring a marketing agency should benefit you tremendously. Many of them know a great deal about social media, and they can lend you their expertise.

Do You Have Ideas for What Your Marketing Should Resemble?

You may also hire a marketing agency because you need ideas. Maybe you’re running the company, and you’re handling many different tasks every day. A CEO wears many hats, and you may feel sometimes like you’re stretched thin.

You may not have the time or creativity to come up with ad campaigns that you think will resonate with new customers or clients. That’s another reason why bringing in a marketing agency makes sense.

They can study your niche and your particular company. They can then come up with several campaign ideas and pitch them to you.

You can pick the ones you like, and then the agency can get to work implementing them. You need their creativity as well as their expertise.

You Can Always Hire Fulltime Marketing Staff Members Later

Keep in mind that if you hire a marketing agency, that does not mean you need to use them forever. You may try them for six months or a year.

If the situation works well, then you might keep them and continue renewing the contract with them every time it expires. You may also get to a point where you think you’re ready to hire an individual or several workers and take your marketing in-house.

In the beginning, though, you’d do well to at least consider a marketing agency for your company. Just make sure that the one you hire knows enough about the niche in which you operate.

You can ask them pointed questions when you meet with one of the agency’s representatives. You can establish that they’ve worked within your industry before and they’ve achieved positive results for their former clients.

You can even contact some of their former customers and ask about this agency if you like. The more due diligence you do, the more likely that you will hire an agency who helps you establish yourself within your industry.
